After being assured by our host at the Guesthouse that the fog wouldn’t stop or delay the ferries, we discovered that they were running two and a half hours late because, surprise, surprise, the heavy fog!!! This was the same host who recommended to us to 2 very ordinary places for meals 2 nights running. Maybe we’re spolit or maybe, Stornoway isn’t the gourmet epicentre of Scotland? We would have loved to have tried the Thai Chicken in a tomato and basil sauce with spaghetti …. Hmmmmmm makes your mouth water doesn’t it? and this was in a Bangladeshi/Indian “restaurant”.

Spending an extra 2.5 hours wandering the streets of Stornoway was quite a challenge – Gail hit the shops but still couldn’t fill in the time. I hit the internet in the local library and checked on our bookings for later next week. We had discovered that the Ryder Cup (big golf event USA v Europe) is on at the same time and in the same area as we would be. We had planned on just taking pot luck but decided to book – lucky we did as most places were booked out! During my checking though I discovered that I had booked two places on the same night – thus now having no accommodation on Wednesday. I cancelled one at no cost but couldn’t rebook for Wednesday as they were full, so now we are off to Lossiemouth – the name alone makes a trip there worthwhile don’t you think?

The fog is still with us today so we wandered the quaint port of Ullapool before taking a drive around the area seeing a ruined castle, interesting geological stuff, lots of misty hills and lochs, and had a pie at Lochinver’s “famous pie shop” – (incredible variety of really good pies) and generally played at being tourists.
